Creating the new value through connecting Hama and town

– Please tell us about “Hachinohe Hama Relation Project”.

“Hachinohe Hama Relation Project” was organized in July 2011, with volunteer members who are involved in the marine products industry, and people from various industries aiming to connect Hama(marine products industry are) and town people, and make a new value to liven up Hachinohe.

Our main event is “Hachinohe Bouillabaisse Festa”, which is to make people eat seafood of Hachinohe, make people know Hachinohe, and to make people love Hachinohe. It was the 4th time of the festival in 2015, and during 2 months from February 1 to March 31, 14 restaurants in hachinohe city served their original “Hachinohe Bouillabaisse”. There are only 2 rules for the Hachinohe Bouillabaisse – use more than 4 kinds of seafood landed on the Hachinohe Port, and make another dish using the savory bouillabaisse soup to be able to enjoy 2 times.

– What made you think serving “Hachinohe Bouillabaisse”?

The reason why we thought serving Bouillabaisse, the signature cuisine of Southern France, was because Bouillabaisse was born in the fishing village. Hachinohe is blessed with a lot of seafood in winter, and there are many chefs who can serve the best seafood dishes. The result of connecting the great things of Hama and town, turned to be “Hachinohe Bouillabaisse Festa”.

Getting positive feedback, such as it’s worth coming all the way to Hachinohe to appreciate it

– So, this winter marks the 4th year of “Hachinohe Bouillabaisse Festa” and looks like it is getting more crowded.

Recently, the festival was advertised by word of mouth, and receiving feedback from inside and outside of Aomori such as ” Hachinohe in winter season seems to be interesting. It’s fun like a festival. Hachinohe is great since seafood is so delicious.”

Hachinohe Bouillabaisse Festa is not only about the deliciousness of the dish, but is the “Festa” creating synergetic attractions by the conversations between visitors and restaurant staff.

The more we hold the festa, the more seafood in Hachinohe gets attention from citizens and tourists. I feel the charm and the value of “Hama Area・Hachinohe” are enriched.

– It’s good to have more attention from both inside and outside of Hachinohe. Can you tell us what’s coming next?

We received the Good Design Award (from Japan Institute of Design Promotion) in 2013 for our activities. Currently we hold “Fish Cooking Class for Kids” and “Hachinohe Kids Restaurant”.

We’d like to keep finding new ideas from various angles, connect people and enlarge the circle of friends, and make people think about Hachinohe like “It was good to come” and “I want to come back”. Also we’d like to work on Hama and Town for our children to be proud of their hometown.
